The winding metal branch represents the unnatural and insidious power that the book’s villain, Neil Alive, has in the story. The branch winds around appears in front of the mysterious and enchanted garden, and carries blooms representing human emotions: Love, Greed, Happiness, Sorrow and Hope. Ultimately Neil Alive wants to rob all humanity of the emotions that feed our dreams and destinies.
