When I was painting Heaven Can Wait, I was thinking about the human body, cancer and chemotherapy. It is not a "pretty" subject, but I thought about the beauty of the human body and how our systems fight to restore the balance and our health, the importance of our mind-set and the human spirit, which must all rise to the challenge. The red and white backdrop of peacock feathers represents the red and white blood cells, fighting to protect my dreams of life and the future, which are represented in the colorful panels. The chemotherapy will destroy the blood cells, along with the cancer cells - a battle that is waged within us, with our body, mind and spirit working together to prevail. |
